FORTEC DISTRIBUTION NETWORK SPONSORS COMMUNITY FUNDRAISING EVENT IN AID OF VILLAGE CHURCH

Go back

The Fortec Distribution Network has thrown its weight behind a classic vehicle display to raise funds for its local church.

The company, based at Watford Gap, is sponsoring Classics on the Green – a display of classic and historic vehicles dating back to 1913, including cars, fire engines, buses, campervans and tractors.

Profits raised from the event will go to the Church of St Peter and St Paul in Watford.

The money will be used towards an appeal which was launched following damage by thieves attempting to steal lead from the roof. Since then the roof has been fitted with emergency, temporary covering.

The church is also raising funds to repair or replace the Chancel roof and window stonework, the gutters and drainage, and is hoping to provide water and toilet facilities and a kitchen or servery, to make the facility more hospitable to visitors.

Craig Johnson, Business Unit Director of Fortec, said: “We are delighted to support the inaugural Classics on the Green event in Watford village.

“A lot of work has gone into the event over several months. It promises to be a fantastic day and Fortec is proud to be a part of something which already has brought the local community closer together.”

Linda Ariss, Church Repair and Restoration Project Lead and Fundraiser, said: “We are especially grateful to Fortec, plus the local council and other village industries that have sponsored the cost of putting on Classics on the Green, enabling it to go ahead and be a true community event. It is great that in a hamlet as small as Watford, which previously had been more of a commuter village, that the community is coming together to help raise funds to save our historic village church”.

Other attractions at the event include craft stalls, children’s pony rides and a local history trail around the village.

The event takes place on Watford Green in the centre of the village on Saturday, June 30th from 11 am.
